23 And Adam said:
“This is now bone of my bones
And flesh of my flesh;
She shall be called Woman,
Because she was taken out of Man.”
24 Therefore a man shall leave his father and mother and be joined to his wife, and they shall become one flesh.

Our society wonders why we have so many problems.  I believe the answers are contained in these couple of verses.  All life starts with a man and a woman.  Both are unique and at the same time equal.  It takes both to make a whole.  Divided a family cannot stand.  Our society has condoned divorce, gay marriage, and children born out of wedlock.  Children are our future.  Without a strong moral family upbringing, our children are left to look to our world for answers.  This can only mean disaster.

I confess, I am part of this moral decay.  When I got married I loved my wife and believed in the morals I stated, however my marriage dissolved and two young children were left to be raised in a broken home.  Why?  I had the right intentions.  I believe its because I didn’t put God first.  I followed worldly principles and failed to acknowledge God.

Today I am single.  I am not looking for someone.  I look towards God and if it is in His plan, I may one day be able to reflect the above verses.  I pray for our society to once again look towards God for the answers.  It we do, our children will grow up in a better place.  We are not promised tomorrow.  We only have today!  Today I will look towards God to guide my steps.

21 And the Lord God caused a deep sleep to fall on Adam, and he slept; and He took one of his ribs, and closed up the flesh in its place. 22 Then the rib which the Lord God had taken from man He made into a woman, and He brought her to the man.

So God brought Eve to Adam.  Cool…..  God will do the same for us as long as we keep our eyes focused on Him.  For most of my life I was so caught up in finding the right woman or just the next woman, that I never stopped to realize…. God will do this.  God can’t bring the right woman to me if certain things aren’t right.  First I need to be in the right place to receive the woman God has made for me.  Second the woman needs to be in the right place.  So both of us need to be mature.  If not it won’t work.  God has a plan for us (Jeremiah 29:11), and if we surrender to His will, He will bring her to us.  Just as God brought Eve to Adam, He will bring us all the things that he has prepared for us.  It’s up to us to be patient and trust in Him.  Proverbs 3:5-6 reads “Trust in the Lord with all your heart, and do not lean on your own understanding. In all your ways acknowledge him, and he will make straight your paths.”  Today I will try to put my trust in the Lord… I hope you will too.

10-7-2015 Genesis 2:18-20

18 And the Lord God said, “It is not good that man should be alone; I will make him a helper comparable to him.” 19 Out of the ground the Lord God formed every beast of the field and every bird of the air, and brought them to Adam to see what he would call them. And whatever Adam called each living creature, that was its name. 20 So Adam gave names to all cattle, to the birds of the air, and to every beast of the field. But for Adam there was not found a helper comparable to him.

Have you ever felt alone? I know I have.  It’s a very difficult place to be.  God understands that it’s not good to be alone.  I hate being alone.  God knows this and promises us that we never have to be alone if we have a relationship with Him.  He told us I will never leave you nor forsake you (Deuteronomy 31:6 ). Jesus before He ascended  said “I am with you always, even to the end of the age” (Matthew 28:20).  Also, Jesus told us “And I will pray the Father, and He will give you another Helper, that He may abide with you forever” (John 14:16).  God desires to have a relationship with everyone of us.  Not just a “help me I’m in a jam” relationship.  But a daily walk with Him.  I have come to know God will walk right along side us through everything we go through.  No matter what, if we call on the name of Jesus he shows up.  In the book of Daniel, Shadrach, Meshach, and Abednego refused to bow down to the king so they were cast into the fiery furnace, however God was with them and brought them through the fire.  Every day we face struggles of this world.  If we just rely on Jesus to walk with us, He will pull us through.  I have come to know Jesus and He is my strength.  Today I try my best to walk with Him.  Won’t you join us?

15 Then the Lord God took the man and put him in the garden of Eden to tend and keep it. 16 And the Lord God commanded the man, saying, “Of every tree of the garden you may freely eat; 17 but of the tree of the knowledge of good and evil you shall not eat, for in the day that you eat of it you shall surely die.”

I don’t know about the rest of you, but I don’t like being told what to do.  Or better yet forbidden to do something.  It’s almost like…oh yeah…I’ll show you.  Those of you that are parents understand this concept.  We give our children rules because we love them and want the best for them.  We try to help them avoid the pain and suffering we have experienced so they may have a better life.  God does the same with us.  He knew the consequences of disobedience.   In this case it was pretty extreme…death!  God gave man the garden of Eden or Paradise with a set of rules.  According to the text, only one rule, and we failed.  I don’t know about you but I am just like Adam.  I am sure I would have eaten the forbidden fruit.  I would just need to know.  So I die…..  Not so fast…..  Jesus said “The thief does not come except to steal, and to kill, and to destroy. I have come that they may have life, and that they may have it more abundantly” (John 10:10).  Satan deceived man or destroy what God had made, however Jesus died and rose again to give us life and not only that but an abundant life.  I don’t know about you guys, but I want more.  Today I want more Jesus.  He is my strength and my salvation(Psalm 118:14), and I can do all things through Christ who strengthens me (Philippians 4:13).  So thank you Jesus!

10-5-2015 Genesis 2:8-9

home_small-1

8 The Lord God planted a garden eastward in Eden, and there He put the man whom He had formed. 9 And out of the ground the Lord God made every tree grow that is pleasant to the sight and good for food. The tree of life was also in the midst of the garden, and the tree of the knowledge of good and evil.

In these verses I see how God planted trees for food, the tree of life, and the tree of the knowledge of good and evil.  It seems to me that the trees represent man, God, and Satan.  The tree of life is very apparent.  Jesus said “I am the way, the truth, and the life. No one comes to the Father except through Me” (John 14:6).  He also said “I am the vine, you are the branches. He who abides in Me, and I in him, bears much fruit; for without Me you can do nothing” (John 15:5).  So Jesus is the tree of life.

Man is represented by the trees that are pleasant for sight and good for food.  Trees bear fruit, and if we abide in Jesus we will bear much fruit. And our fruit is to be shared with others.

So that last tree must be Satan.  We all know the story….Satan deceived  Eve and she and Adam chose sin.  They knew the right thing to do, however they chose to disobey.  It can be hard to do the right things.  Our world pulls us in so many different directions it’s hard to know the truth.  I have found when I rely on God’s word to direct my life things are better.  Not perfect…but better.

So when you don’t know what to say or do….just say “Jesus!!!”

10-2-2015 Genesis 2:7

hand-dust-690x462

And the Lord God formed man of the dust of the ground, and breathed into his nostrils the breath of life; and man became a living being.

This is so cool.  My physical body is made from the earth, but the essence of who I am is from God.  Since God gave me life, I owe everything to Him.  Everything in our world has a price.  If you buy a car, and can’t afford the entire price, they give you a loan and you ‘owe’ the money.  If you don’t pay it back, they repossess your car.  When you buy a house, you take out a mortgage, and if you don’t pay they foreclose and take the house.  So everything we owe, we must pay for.  We go to work to receive a salary or wage, so we can pay our debt.  The Bible tells us that the wages of sin is death (Romans 6:23), and all have sinned and fall short (Romans 3:23).  So what we deserve is ‘death’. However, Jesus died and rose to pay our debt.  In the beginning God gave us life, then we sinned and deserve death, but he came and paid the price.  All I need to do is accept Him.  It is really that easy.  But when we truly accept Jesus, everything changes.  We are really born again.  I am so grateful for the life He has given me and more over the life he saved.  So In The Beginning… “just say Jesus”.

10-1-2015 Genesis 2:4-6

gen-24-6

4 This is the history of the heavens and the earth when they were created, in the day that the Lord God made the earth and the heavens, 5 before any plant of the field was in the earth and before any herb of the field had grown. For the Lord God had not caused it to rain on the earth, and there was no man to till the ground; 6 but a mist went up from the earth and watered the whole face of the ground.

As I try to understand what God is telling me here I can’t help but see another example of how God will always provide.  Verse 5 states that God had not caused it to rain.  In our world today when it fails to rain for a long period of time a drought occurs.  People suffer from lack of  water, crops wither and die, wildfires spread, lack of food, and the list goes on.  However we see in verse 6 that a mist went up from the earth and watered the whole face of the ground.  So many times when I am suffering (usually me just complaining) God will provide me the necessary tools and resources I need.  He always makes a way out of a seemingly hopeless situation. All I need to do is have faith.   All the great men of the Bible had faith.  I can’t imagine what Noah must have gone through, however he built the ark and God saved him and his family.  Abraham went out not knowing where he was going but God provided.  Jesus tells us “if you have faith and do not doubt and if you say to this mountain, ‘Be removed and be cast into the sea,’ it will be done” (Matthew 21:21).  Today I’m not sure where I am going, but I have faith that God will lead my steps and provide a way.

9-30-2015 Genesis 2:1-3

Cosmos

Thus the heavens and the earth, and all the host of them, were finished. 2 And on the seventh day God ended His work which He had done, and He rested on the seventh day from all His work which He had done. 3 Then God blessed the seventh day and sanctified it, because in it He rested from all His work which God had created and made.

The text tells us that God rested.  I believe he just wanted to set the example for us.  We all need rest.  This world we live in can be exhausting. We need to be refueled. How do we do that? I believe it is found in God’s word and prayer.  This is a daily practice, however setting aside a day for rest and reflection is essential.  Verse three reads that “God blessed the seventh day and sanctified it”.  The Hebrew word for sanctified is “Qadash”.  The literal meaning is to be set apart, be holy. We need that day to be set apart from the rest.  I believe when we take time to reflect on our life, our purpose, and repent, we become recharged.  We become set apart.  We are different from the rest of God’s creation.  We were made in God’s image (Genesis 1:27).  We were fearfully and wonderfully made (Psalm 139:14). We were made for a purpose (Jeremiah 29:11). And we are to be holy or set apart (1 Peter 1:16).  In other words, I need to take time to rest, pray, and read God’s word.  This will set me apart from the rest of the world, which is what God intended all along!
